Canmaker Achieves Cost-Effective Compliance
With legislation looming on the horizon, JLClark began a thorough review of the pending EPA requirements and a corresponding search for a company that could provide an oxidizer system.

Environmental regulations for air pollution cotrol at metal
decorating and packaging facilities usually address can makers,
base coil coaters, or metal parts and packaging
manufacturers. Metal Decorating can be classified as any
process where metal is formed painted, or coated. Metal Packaging
is generally considered processes involved in the production of
light metal containers, closures and components.
The industry has experience with compliance regulations on air
quality, specifically Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) and Hazardous
Air Pollutant (HAP) control. Recent changes in those
regulations have increased the requirements for capture and control
of VOCs and HAPs exhausted from metal decorating processes.
Destruction of captured VOCs has historically been achieved with
traditional oxidizer technologies that easily destroy 99% plus of
the harmful emissions. The challenges posed by recent regulations
have altered the way Anguil addresses your application, focusing on
emission reduction via a capture system in conjunction with the
pollution control device.
Historically, Thermal Recuperative Oxidizers
have been used because of their ability to handle high temperature,
VOC-laden oven exhaust and recover the heat to be reused in heating
ovens or other process equipment. The fuel-efficient, RTO
(Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) has recently become the
preferred abatement technology but there are additional equipment
offerings that can dramatically improve system performance.
-
Permanent Total Enclosures (PTE) increase the
overall capture and control of VOCs, we will often apply this
technology for better capture efficiency at the process. This
allows our customers to obtain 100% capture and very high rates of
overall control.
- Concentrator Systems
reduce the air volume being sent to an oxidizer and can save a
significant amount of money in operating and capital equipment
costs. Large volumes of VOC-laden air are absorbed into a
concentrator then desorbed in a condensed, smaller volume before
being sent to the oxidizer. From a new equipment
standpoint, concentrators decrease the oxidizer system size, saving
money on capital equipment costs and operating expenses. A
concentrator could also be used to increase the capacity and
efficiency of an existing oxidizer system, allowing our customers
to expand production without spending a lot of money to upgrade
their air pollution control equipment.
- Heat Exchangers utilize
hot, treated air to preheat the incoming process air. This
cuts down on the fuel needed to raise the process or oxidation
temperatures, thus saving energy.
There are many different solutions that Anguil Environmental
Systems can offer and has provided to meet the strict environmental
regulations as well as energy reduction goals. Providing full
service evaluations, focusing not only on the customer's oxidizer
but the total overall system is our goal.
